SALT THERAPY
WHAT IS DRY SALT THERAPY– Salt therapy, aka, halotherapy, is a holistic method that reproduces the natural microclimate of a salt cave by dispersing micronized dry salt aerosol in a high concentration in a room or booth. The dry salt aerosol plays an important role in the relief of health problems, and is used for respiratory problems and skin conditions.

HOW DOES DRY SALT THERAPY WORK? – Pharmaceutical grade salt is ground to micron sized particles and dispersed into the air. Clients simply sit and relax in comfortable in one of our salt booths and breathe in the cool, dry salt air. The tiny particles of salt are able to reach the deepest part of the lungs, sinuses, ears, and pores of the skin where they absorb and help to remove bacteria, virus, mold spores, pollen and inhaled pollutants. The salt aerosol also thins the mucus and speeds up the rate at which it is expelled from the lungs. The respiratory tract and skin is cleared, and inflammation is reduced thus benefiting the entire body.

IS SALT THERAPY SAFE FOR CHILDREN? – Salt therapy is not only safe for children, it is highly recommended. It is a 100% drug free, non-invasive and comfortable treatment with no side effects or potential health hazards. The treatment is suitable for children of any age (including infants). Infants to 1 year only need a 10 min Sessions. Children, in fact, respond to the therapy even more quickly than do adults.

EVERYONE KNOWS EATING SALT IS GENERALLY NOT GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH, SO WHY IS IT GOOD TO BREATHE? – Yes, we all know eating too much of salt is linked to high blood pressure, which can increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes. However, during salt therapy you are breathing the dry saline aerosol into your respiratory system, NOT ingesting it into your digestion tract.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR A SALT SESSION? – Salt therapy requires no special clothing; the salt will not damage your clothes. We recommend wearing shorts or short sleeve or even sleeveless if you are coming in for skin issues such as psoriasis or eczema, you will need to have that part of your skin exposed for salt therapy. You will need to remove your shoes before entering the salt booth, so please come with a clean pair of socks (for kids as well).

WHAT KIND OF SALT IS USED/RECOMMENDED FOR DRY SALT THERAPY? – The only kind of salt that should be used for inhaling into your lungs in a salt room or salt booth is pure pharmaceutical grade sodium chloride. Salts such as Himalayan, Epsom or Dead Sea have amazing healing benefits for your skin, to rub on or soak in or to eat (Himalayan & sea salt), but not to inhale. Minerals in those types of salts can not break down in the lungs and if one has damaged lungs with scaring, then it is possible to get mineral pieces trapped in the lungs.

WHAT KINDS OF RESPIRATORY AND SKIN CONDITIONS DOES DRY SALT THERAPY HELP TO AID IN? – Salt Therapy can help alleviate many symptoms and ailments and can provide relief for those who need it with these types of conditions; Asthma, Allergies, Common Cold, Bronchitis, COPD, Cystic Fibrosis, Sinusitis, Ear Infections, Smokers Cough, Psoriasis, Itching, Eczema, Acne, Swelling & Inflammation, Dermatitis, Dry & Flaky Skin, Rashes, Rosacea. It is also recommended for healthy people as it boosts the immune system to help combat the high amounts of pollutants, toxins, dust, and bacteria we all breathe everyday.

IS THERE A RISK SUCH AS CATCHING A COLD/FLU FROM OTHER PEOPLE USING THE SALT BOOTH? – it is nearly impossible to catch any infection or be affected by bacteria during the therapy. Salt is a natural anti-bacterial, anti-microbial and it kills almost all bacteria on contact. We do ask that if you are sick with pneumonia, strep-throat or any kind of staph infection that you please wait until you are better. Salt thrives on staphylococcus- staph infections!

WHO SHOULD NOT GET SALT THERAPY IN GENERAL? – As a precaution, the Salt Associations state that halotherapy is not recommended for individuals with the following conditions:
• Staph infection

• Acute respiratory disease
• Cardiac insufficiency
• COPD with 3rd stage of chronic lung insufficiency
• Coughing of blood/bleeding

HOW MANY SALT SESSIONS WILL I NEED? – Many people notice some relief from the first session. However longer lasting results are found with multiple sessions. Depending on the condition, 8-20 sessions fairly close together may be needed. Once symptoms are reduced, the frequency of sessions will depend on the individual and the conditions they are experiencing.

ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS? – Typically there are none. Some individuals have experienced a slight throat tickle, which can be alleviated with gargling warm water after a session. In cases with an individual that is highly sensitive they can experience slight skin irritation or red patches; however, they usually go away after a few sessions.
If you experience increased coughing that means the salt therapy treatment is working. This is the body’s way of clearing mucus and toxic buildup. If there is a heavy mucus build up, coughing and sinus drainage may get worse with a lot of mucus being expelled between the 4th and 6th sessions as the body goes into a healing state. Clients generally report feeling much better after the 6th session.

Or, 4 to 5 times weekly for best results. We also suggest visiting the sauna immediately following your workout to see the best weight loss and recovery results. If you are simply just wanting to “Get away from it all” time, just coming in 1 to 2 times a week is also encouraged to help reduce stress…. and hey… your “alone time” + reduce stress + burn calories ALL AT THE SAME TIME…now that’s a Win/Win!!

HOW LONG ARE SAUNA SESSIONS? – from 30 minutes to 40 minutes.

ARE SAUNAS CLEAN BEFORE EACH USE?– Yes, we sanitize each sauna before and after every use and provide clean towels. Also, infrared light kills all bacteria and any airborne germs. Many medical devices are sterilized using infrared light.

WHAT IF I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH SWEATING? – People sweat at all different levels. For some it takes a few sessions to start the detoxifying process. Certain types of auto-immune issues make it difficult to sweat no matter what. In this case, we highly recommend starting your sauna session at a lower temperature and/or less time in the sauna until you can adapt. We also highly recommend you drink water before and after your session to stay hydrated. Staying hydrated helps you to sweat more. You can also try our clinically proven sweat enhancer “Pure sweat” cream to boost sweating and aid in the detoxifying and fat burning process.

CAN I USE MY PHONE DURING MY SESSION? – Yes you can. You can listen to your favorite music…hint: calming is always recommended. Get caught up on emails, texts etc.. Or, put your phone away and unwind with a friend or simply relax, lay back and enjoy some quiet time.

CAN I BRING A FRIEND?– Yes, our saunas will comfortably accommodate you and a friend or loved one. When you book your appointment, please be sure to let us know if another person will be joining you. Please note our saunas are private rooms and not community saunas. Also, if both individuals have Packages or a Membership, you will each have a session deducted from your account. If you are bringing a non-member, it is only $20 for them to join you in your session.

WHAT IF I’M RUNNING LATE OR NEED TO CANCEL MY APPOINTMENT?– If you are late, the minutes will cut into your session if we have an appointment booked right after you. We do ask for a 24 hour cancellation notice. This will give someone else an opportunity to use the sauna. We do understand that life happens. But if you tend to “no-show” too often or cancel your appointment on the same day too many times, then we will need to charge you a cancellation fee of $25.

WILL I BURN CALORIES DURING MY SESSION? Yes! Typically between 200 to 600 calories per session. The more you sweat, the more calories you burn. While you relax in our sauna, your body is hard at work pumping blood – increased heart rate – increased circulation, and producing sweat – so your body can cool down. This is what’s known as a caloric burn! Please note: drinking water before and after your session is extremely important to stay hydrated. Did we also mention, our Sunlighten Saunas are Dr’s #1 rated saunas!
